very unique and unusually designed late 19th century antique american ornamental cast iron fireplace gas insert guard or grille designed and fabricated by w. l. sharp and son co., steubenville, oh. the replacement panel features two winged dragons surrounding a fanciful urn containing a large cluster of overflowing grapes. the surrounding floriated scrollwork and flowing ribbons are finely executed in great detail. the perforated iron panel has been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. minute traces of of the original copper-plated finish evident. measures 20 x 6 3/4 inches.
