19th century american victorian era interior residential fireplace gas grate surround possibly fabricated by the peerless mfg. co., louisville, ky. the decorative firebox frame is comprised largely of cast iron with a uniform metallic gold enameled finish. the neoclassical style grate features a slightly protruding figural lion head above the hood containing delicate ribbons and swag. likely dates to 1890-95. a more complete fireplace insert is available. measures 25 x 31 inches.
