early 20th century antique american industrial flush mount illuminated exit light panel salvaged from a chicago athletic club gymnasium prior to renovation. the remarkably intact and hard to find single-sided sign retains the original ruby red glass panel with deeply etched lettering finished in frosted white. the heavy cast bronze rectangular-shaped surround is comprised of an outer frame with opposed screw holes, and an inner sign frame that is detachable and/or tilts. the original galvanized steel housing containing the source of illumination was removed long ago. the front retains the original refinished steel mesh protective cover used to prevent the glass from being damaged. the sign and matching surround were designed and fabricated by the universal electric stage company, kliegl brothers, new york city, ny. great overall condition. 15 3/4 inches x 2 1/2 inches x 9 inches.
