reinforced american industrial heavy gauge steel freestanding "otsteel" joliet penitentiary workshop stool designed and fabricated by the angle steel stool company, plainwell, mi. the four-legged stool retains the original solid maple wood circular-shaped seat with a slightly sunken center. the riveted joint stretchers and/or cross-bracing provide added support and rigidity. the workshop stool has been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the distinctive inward-turned ball feel provide added stability. the adjustable extensions contains a plurality of closely-spaced pre-drilled holes for achieving desired height. a nearly identical stool was salvaged from the same workshop within the prison. only one of the stool salvaged contains the inmate's name and identification number. base diameter measures at 15 1/2 inches. seat diameter measures at 14 1/2 inches. seat height measures at 27 1/2 inches.
