all original 19th century american interior wood and/or coal burning marble fireplace mantel salvaged from a gold coast mansion located in chicago, ills. the visually striking hand-carved mantel is comprised largely of tennessee marble with white cararra pilaster accents. the built-up mantle consists of several individual pieces carefully assembled and reinforced with grout and/or mortar. the long and rectangular mantel shelf remains in great condition with very little, if any, wear along the edges. the legs contain deeply chamfered edges flanking half-circle columns. the horizontal frieze contains a series of unadorned block modillions found along the underside the of the shelf. the marble mantel was fabricated by the burlington mfg. co., chicago, il.
