complete 19th century american interior wood and/or coal burning salvaged chicago marble fireplace mantel with original and intact shelf. the impressive hand-carved mantel is comprised largely of tennessee marble with multi-colored stone accent. the built-up mantle consists of several individual pieces carefully assembled and reinforced with grout and/or mortar. the long and rectangular mantel shelf is structurally sound and stable. the legs contain multi-colored panels alternating in size and finish. the horizontal frieze contains a series of unadorned block modillions found along the underside the of the shelf. the marble mantel was likely fabricated by f.w. smith & company, chicago, ills. only one available.
