unusual early twentieth century original heavy riveted steel and cast iron storage rack or shelving unit likely manufactured for the bridgeport engravers' supply company. the exact purpose of the bench-mounted rectangular device is not known. two thick steel rods are bolted to the base piece, and hold a strip of metal with comb-like cut outs down each side. this strip is adjustable, able to be moved vertically by loosening or tightening the thumb screws fastening it to the rods. centrally stamped in the base is the manufacturer's name "besco". likely a component of industrial engraving machinery and/or storage. measures 17 1/2 x 8 x 9 inches. the brushed metal finish has been sealed with a clear coat lacquer.
