oversized 19th century original and mostly intact interior residential decorative wood crown or header likely designed and fabricated by the chicago grille works, chicago, il. the wall-mount header section is comprised largely of solid mahogany with a frieze consisting of "flame" birch wood. the elaborate crown molding contains both dentil work and classic egg & dart trimwork. the original deeply embossed gesso or composite work contains intricate laurel wreaths with swag. the two projecting blocks are adorned with sea shells and fanciful ribbons. the original varnished finish remains in great overall condition, considering age. salvaged from a chicago residence built in the late 1890's. measures 66 1/2 x 13 1/2 x 16 inches.
