hard to find and intact mid-nineteenth century vibrant blue mineral water bottle manufactured for john ogden in pittsburgh, pa. the slim body and low shoulders taper into a long, narrow neck with an applied blob top finish. the lip is intact except for a small flat chip at the edge. the finish is heavily whittled and features stretch marks in the neck. the front body is caseworn but still legibly embossed "john ogden's / mineral water / pittsburg". the reverse is embossed with an ornate "o". there are several large bubbles in the body, and allover whittling and seeding, crudities typical of its age and date of manufacture. at the base is a deep kickup that retains minimal residue from the iron pontil. john ogden operated at 187 first street as early as 1851.
