frank s. betz company, hammond, ind.
early 20th century antique american medical stationary hospital operating room side table or cabinet designed and fabricated by or for the frank s. betz company, hammond, ind. the rectangular-shaped box-like cabinet is comprised of cold-rolled steel with a uniform brushed and sanded metal finish, sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the two identical hinged doors with beveled trim or edges retain the original hardware (i.e., cabinet hinges and pulls). the cabinet can be easily detached from the supporting frame, constructed of all welded-joint tubular steel. the cabinet interior retains the original "sani" white enameled finish with each compartment equipped with a single shelf. the top is specifically designed for use with a sterilizer and a water basin. the medical workstation likely contained a vitreous enameled steel bowl that rested on the detachable circular-shaped base that sits in place, but can be removed if need be. the tubular steel legs contain older (possibly original) hardened black rubber "shoes" or feet. salvaged from a michigan state asylum.
