largely intact salvaged antique american 19th century varnished oak wood interior residential passage header panel designed and fabricated by or for the decorators' supply company, chicago, il. the decorative solid oak wood panel is double-sided, with virtually identical finish and ornament throughput. the gesso or "plastic" applique consists of opposed ribbons and laurel wreaths made up of bellflowers. the trim work along the arch consists of a classic repeating egg & dart motif. two similar panels are available (the other has a more darkened stain). the arched header was salvaged from a chicago graystone constructed around 1898. measures 33 1/2 x 16. height inside arch is 10 inches.
