original c. 1890-1900 oversized neoclassical style ornamental cast brass doorknob backplate fabricated by the lockwood manufacturing co., south norwalk, conn. the backplate contains a wrought brass thimble or collar, along with a "dummy" mortise cylinder lock cover plate. the topmost section of the plate features two opposed cherubs flanking an elaborate fluted urn with detailed leafage. the bottom of the backplate contains a fluted urn with flame finial. nicely aged surface patina with heavy oxidation (i.e., dark green encrustation) found deep within the crevices. measures 13 3/4 x 3 1/4 inches.
