rare original and intact c. 1846-1854 aqua soda bottle fabricated for miguel piris in new orleans. the slim body has steep shoulders that slope into a long, narrow neck and applied "donut" ring. the front body is embossed with crude spacing and some casewear near the heel, "miguel piris / mineral water / no 334 / royal street / n.o.". on the reverse is a raised block letter "p" with a bubble suspended in the embossing. the base exhibits a deep kickup with no trace of residue from the iron pontil. crudities are typical of its age and date of manufacture. it is believed that miguel piris is the man who introduced seltzer water to new orleans. miguel piris was in the brewery business in 1846 before becoming a soda or mineral water dealer. during his brewery business there was misspelling of his name to "mitchell peres" and during his soda business there was misspelling of his name to migull piris. he never left the 334 royal street even while changing the business from brewery to soda. he sold his business in 1854 to peter pons. measures 7 1/4 inches high.
