exceptionally unique and finely crafted early 20th century american exterior white glazed terra cotta figural lion head salvaged from the facade of a chicago bank building built around 1890-1900. the exact chicago building and/or architect on records is not known. the highly detailed lion head is finished on all sides, with a hollow cavity interior. the figural building artifact exhibits naturally aged surface characteristics, in the form of allover crazing and sporadic discoloration caused from prolonged exposure to soot, etc. with the exception of the missing lower jaw (lost long ago), the figural lion head remains largely intact. possibly designed and modeled by then modeler kristian schneider, who for several years was the head modeler at the midland terra cotta company, chicago, il. f. measures 11 x 14 x 16 inches.
