original c. 1940's vintage american industrial red enameled heavy gauge steel two tier stationary side table likely fabricated by the lyon metallic mfg. co., aurora, il. the original lightly incised brass plaque contains a defense plant corporation identification plaque riveted against the angled steel (see left corner). the dfc was a subsidiary of the reconstruction finance corporation (rpc), which was an independent agency of the united states government, established and chartered by the us congress in 1932, during the administration of president herbert hoover. it was modeled after the war finance corporation of world war i. the agency gave $2 billion in aid to state and local governments and made loans to banks, railroads, mortgage associations and other businesses. it was continued by the new deal and played a major role in handling the great depression in the united states and setting up the relief programs that were taken over by the new deal in 1933. the structurally sound and stable factory table measures 24 x 18 x 33 inches.
