all original antique c. 1860's lightly tumbled civil war-era deep cobalt blue pony style blobtop soda bottle manufactured for bottler james wise in allentown, pennsylvania. the slender body has low sloping shoulders and a long narrow neck, finished with an intact applied blobtop that exhibits some slop. the body contains a good strike, with clear and legible embossed lettering reading "j. wise / allentown / pa", a raised end-letter 'a' in the abbreviated 'pennsylvania'. on the reverse is embossed, "this bottle / belong to / james wise". the base has a shallow indent with an off-center dimple, evidencing manufacture with two leaf mold. allover crudities in the form of bubbles, whittling, and slight asymmetry are consistent with age and date of manufacture.
