original 19th century american victorian era carved quartered oak wood interior residential full fireplace mantel possibly fabricated by palmer, fuller & co., chicago, il. the mantel contains a spacious firebox opening replete with egg & dart molding. the curvaceous mantel shelf with finely carved gadrooned corbel remains in great overall condition, considering age. the elaborate turned wood columns are supported by box-shaped plinth blocks. the midsection and capital of each opposed column features intricate floral motifs. the original crown contains swag consisting of interconnected bellflowers. the original beveled edge mirror is intact. the full victorian era fireplace mantel was salvaged from the c. 1886 extant david c. cook mansion, located in elgin, il. exterior measures 84 x 62 x 12 inches. Firebox opening measures 42 x 47 inches.
