original and intact mid-19th century american carved alabama marble residential fireplace mantel likely fabricated by the excelsior stone works, chicago, ills. the fanciful pre-fire salvaged chicago mantel features encircled bas-relief cherubs flanking a centrally located oversized decorative keystone. the shelf and sides are accentuated with rope molding. the exceptional hand-carved mantel is largely uniform in color. horseshoe mantles from this era are becoming increasingly hard to find in chicago. 73 x 10 x 45.
