all original antique c. 1860's civil war-era cobalt blue pony style blobtop soda bottle manufactured for bottler james wise in allentown, pennsylvania. the slender body has low sloping shoulders and a long narrow neck with multiple vertical straw marks. this is finished with an intact applied blobtop. the body contains a good strike, with clear and legible embossed lettering reading "j. wise / allentown / pa", a raised end-letter 'a' in the abbreviated 'pennsylvania'. on the reverse is embossed, "this bottle / belong to / james wise". the base has a shallow indent with an off-center dimple, evidencing manufacture with two leaf mold. allover crudities in the form of bubbles, whittling, and slight asymmetry are consistent with age and date of manufacture. the bottle does exhibit some haze and irridization, typical of being dug.
