scarce antique late 1880's amber colored glass sample size "brand bros" bitters bottle. the diminutive bottle sits on a round pedestal base and features three circular panels rounding into a long neck finished with tapered collar and ring. the triangular body has raised knobs or bumps near the shoulder on the bevel. a single circular panel is embossed "brand bros. co / eigenthumer / gesetzlich geschutzt", the latter two lines of text translating to "proprietor / patent protected". the other two panels are blank where a paper label would have been adhered. this is a dug bottle with overall haze but no chips or cracks. crudities are typical of its age and date of manufacture. brand brothers was a chicago based liquor merchant who packaged bitters. presumably the german name was retained for marketability to the many german immigrants in the city at the turn of the century. measures 4 7/8 inches tall.
