one of three original and completely intact remarkably heavy duty explosion and/or vapor-proof ceiling fixture salvaged from an old chicago garment factory. the single oversized and heavily reinforced industrial fixture was designed and fabricated by the crouse-hinds, co., syracuse, ny. the fixture retains the original impact-resistant threaded end clear glass "jar" and cast aluminum cage used to secure or protect the single incandescent light bulb. the tapered conduit body and socket housing are made of heavy aluminum. the weather-resistant ceramic socket is original and intact. the large bowl-shaped reflector contains a green porcelain enameled finish over cold-rolled steel. the robust cast aluminum ceiling canopy contains manufacturer markings throughout. the industrial fixtures were recently salvaged from the roberts electric company, chicago, ills. the machine shop and factory were formally located in the historic fulton market district. the company specialized in fabrication components used in military aircraft. measures 13 inches in diameter x 17 inches high.
