massive late 19th century antique american interior residential fireplace mantel designed and fabricated by or for e.l. robers & company, chicago, ills. the flaming birch wood full-sized fireplace mantel contains a largely uniform stained finish. the structurally sound and stable mantel was salvaged from a chicago mansion undergoing demolition. the centrally located shelf is supported by two opposed wood brackets. the full size round columns contain uniquely designed multi-faceted capitals. the frieze retains the original elaborate scrollwork.
