remarkable original and largely intact c. 1860's recessed panel pine wood residential carpenter's tool chest found in michigan. the well-built tool cabinet retains the original unornamented cast iron drop pulls with arch top backplates. the top of the hinges chest was either repaired or altered with the addition of a galvanized sheet steel cover that was likely added after 1900. the original crazed green paint is largely intact with typical wear and tear evident. the reinforced interior contains a single removable tool tray with sawmill markings evident. the three hinges or butts are comprised of wrought iron and like the drop handles, are original to the chest. the primitive workman's chest contained a lockable hasp at one point, in the form of strap hinge. great overall condition. solidly constructed by hand. measures 38 x 20 x 17.
