original early 20th century antique american medical stationary sidetable or workstation purportedly salvaged from the northern michigan asylum located in traverse, mich. the 1885 asylum is considered one of the most "haunted" extant hospitals (closed in 1989) in the midwest. the cabinet was designed and fabricated by the frank s. betz co., hammond, ind. the original "sani" top is comprised of cold-rolled heavy gauge pressed and folded steel with the original white porcelain or vitreous enameled finish intact. the riveted and/or welded joint cabinet features a single pull-out drawer and cabinet door with surface or flush-mount hinges. the original three-sided rail-guard is intact and affixed tightly against the underside of the tabletop. the brushed metal finish has been sanded and later sealed with a clear coat finish to achieve and uniform surface and prevent surface corrosion. robust antique american medical cabinet. only one available. measures 21 1/2 x 16 x 35 inches at the highest points.
