1870's interior residential octagonal-shaped staircase newel post salvaged from a chicago two-flat house built shortly after the great chicago fire of 1871. the lightly stained walnut wood newel post was likely fabricated by palmer, fuller, & company, chicago, ills. the newel post consists of multiple turned components secured by a centrally located solid steel rod anchored into the floor. the multi-faceted newel post is largely intact and structurally sound. the freestanding walnut wood newel post exhibits surface wear and tear consistent with age.
